Princess Mononoke

Princess Mononoke is a masterpiece of animated filmmaking and a landmark work from Studio Ghibli. Directed by Hayao Miyazaki and released by his Studio Ghibli in 1997 it blends historical context

The film has strong fantasy elements, where gods and spirits still inhabit the forests. The story follows Ashitaka, a young prince of the Emishi tribe, who becomes cursed after killing a giant demon (a corrupted boar god) to protect his village. The curse grants him supernatural strength but will eventually kill him.  At the heart of the forest’s defense is San, a human girl raised by the wolves. The film is a powerful commentary on the destructive impact of industrialization and human greed on the natural world, emphasizing the necessity of a harmonious relationship between man and nature.
