We are The Art of Cinema and we run pop-up exhibitions of vintage and modern cinema posters in the foyers and cafes of cinemas and other arts venues. The private collection consists of all genres of movie posters: from Hitchcock films, featuring the particular graphic design genius of Saul Bass and other classic vintage images; through to modern redesigns by new young designers who have reimagined the classic images on silk screen prints.
The collection has been put together by former cinema manager Jeremy who has amassed a collection of over 1000 original and vintage film posters. Now a trained conservation framer he frames in order to extend the poster’s life: to protect and preserve their delicate ink and paper. All our wooden frames are hand-built to size and hold the posters free floating (ie not stuck down) in an acid-free mount board, all things which should allow the posters to live longer and to continue to rise in value.
Many avid cinema fans now love to collect posters, and many of our best known images and designs have become collectors items. Prices of some of the pieces have rocketed as interest in these images has grown, even though they were never originally intended to be works of art.
The posters that we sell are usually as a one-off and in order to keep our prices down we pretty much sell on the posters at market cost and then ONLY sell our posters framed. The frames are handcrafted to fit the hand-cut mount, it's a slow labour of love but ensures the quality we are after. We buy our posters from all over and their value will fluctuate according to availability and rarity and condition of each image.
Tell us about the images you like and we will give you all the information about the poster and the cost of each individual item, which will include the cost of framing, and the price of delivery.
We only display a minimal amount of information about the posters on our website and don't expect you to make a purchase without knowing more. We would love to talk to you in more detail about each piece that you are interested in, so will send you a further set of images (if available) and as much information about the poster, including its condition once you contact us.
Tell us about the images you like and we will reply with all the information about the poster and the cost of each individual item, which will include the cost of framing, and the price of delivery.
When we buy contemporary posters direct from the artist we can ensure provenance and sometimes provide a certificate of authenticity. Most of our silk screen prints are signed by the artist and we know the edition number.
However our vintage pieces were never intended to be "kept" as pieces of art, they may have graced a wall outside a cinema or they will have been displayed at a bus stop. For these, we will give you all the information we can about the each individual item, but ultimately there is no guarantee of provenance to accompany the more vintage pieces.
